It follows Clementine, an ordinary autistic woman grieving her mother who discovers that Earth contains an ancient civilisation-management system.
When she is offered temporary control over what happens next, along with the possibility of bringing her mother back, the story becomes less about whether she can change the world and more about whether she should.

- Characters have lives beyond the plot. They have work, friendships, families, ambitions and things they would rather be doing.
- Technology creates consequences. Solving one problem should be capable of creating another.
- Love does not erase autonomy. Caring about someone does not automatically give you the right to decide what happens to them.
- Good intentions are not enough. People can make terrible decisions while genuinely believing they are helping.
- The world has to remain worth saving. Even dark stories need room for people creating, laughing, loving and caring for one another.
